| Kelly (Jennie Garth) and Silver (Jessica Stroup) are surprised when Donna (guest star Tori Spelling) shows up at their door, straight off a plane from Japan. Annie (Shenae Grimes) and Dixon (Tristan Wilds) decide to spend their spring break on a road trip to visit someone from Dixon's past, while Ethan (Dustin Milligan) decides to step out of his bubble and volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord) joins the Habitat build after learning that Liam (Matt Lanter) is also attending, but is clearly out of her comfort zone. While Kelly and Donna are dining on sushi, Diablo Cody (guest starring as herself) convinces Donna to design her a dress for a red carpet event. Stuart Gillard directed the episode written by Jennie Snyder Urman & Rebecca Rand Kirshner Sinclair. | Kelly is clearly over-reacting to Silver's bipolorism and making Silver insane in the process. She makes her fill out a mood chart, take regimented meds, and spend every waking out with Kelly. She is about to crack when who should show up but: DONNA MARTIN! Yay—the moment we’ve all been waiting for! And she has her little daughter Ruby in tow.
Donna is taking a break from her Japanese Fashion because she wants to be there for her half sister, Silver. They are just getting ready to hang out when Kelly makes Silver get to bed.
Annie is not excited for Spring break because she just broke up with Ethan, and Dixon convinces her to take a road trip with him…to Arizona. They lie to their parents about where they are going, and head out for the brother/sister road trip. Once on the road we discover that Dixon actually wanted to go to AZ, not for the water parks like he says, but rather to see his mom. There is also some shameless Dr. Pepper product placement. When Dixon confesses to Annie the real reason for the trip, she gets pretty upset about it. Dixon feels guilty that he told a social worker that he’d rather be adopted than go back to live with his mom because he was so mad at her for being “crazy.”
Ryan tries to get people to participate in Habitat for Humanity and miraculously Ethan signs up. Naomi thinks Liam has signed up for it as well, so she signs up as well (After having bashed it just moments before). At Habitat for Humanity, Naomi tries to cozy up to Liam, but he kinda blows her off and acts superior. She bugs Ethan until he agrees to find out what Liam thinks about Naomi. Clearly, Ethan and Liam don’t really get along and he accomplishes nothing. Later, when Naomi has all but forgotten about Liam, he comes up to her and kisses her. That night, Ethan tries to buy peyote from Liam, and he agrees to give it to him, as long as they do it together.
Donna informs Kelly that she has been living in Tokyo (and riding the SUBWAY!) and she claims that she and David are doing great. Later at sushi, Diablo Cody (the writer of Juno, or “Teenage Mommy Girl” in Japan) comes up to the old friends and says she loves Donna’s dress and asks where she can get one. It is one that Donna has designed herself, and she agrees to make her one for an upcoming award show. Donna sees tension between Silver and Kelly and tries to tell Silver to be patient with Kelly and realize where she is coming from.
Annie and Dixon try to go see Dixon’s mom but Dixon chickens out at the last minute and can’t go up and talk to her…so Annie goes up to her for him. She tells her that he is sorry for choosing to go with the social worker, but his mom tells Annie that he was 8 and had no say in the matter. She asks Annie about how Dixon is doing and they share stories about him.
At Habitat, Liam and Ethan drink peyote tea together and Ethan discovers that he is hiding who he really is. He pretends he is happy for everyone else’s sake, but he is “tired of being the good guy”. Later Liam tells Ethan that he was never really tripping, just had a few too many beers and drank herbal tea. Back in BH, Liam and Ethan are friends, and Liam and Naomi are still going strong.
Kelly and Silver eventually come to a working agreement that they can both live with. Donna tells Kelly that she might be thinking of opening a store in LA…and that her and David are separated. =(
