Exclusive: Michael Steger Interview (90210)

Sept. 17, 2009

90210 News - 90210 Fan SiteThe new season of Beverly Hills, 90210: The Next Generation is refreshing, dangerous, and jammed packed with sex appeal. The drama has been piled on thick this fall and the returning cast is greeted by a few new faces that are just dying to stir up controversy. At its all new time, 8pm Tuesday night on the CW, 90210 is back and badder than ever.Spicing up the cast is season regular Michael Steger who found a place within the cast last year as the rich kid who befriends newbie Dixon and scores with hottie Adrianna. Steger works effortless to make Navid the smooth talking gentleman that fans fell in love with. PopStar spoke with the actor who talks all about his characters relationship with Adrianna and why he thinks it's trouble.Like Navid, Steger is a go-getter and has achieved many great accomplishments already in life. Gradating with honors from Cal Ploy, receiving his first Dan black belt, and finding the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with. Before landing the dream job on 90210, Steger had made guest appearances on Hannah Montana, Cory In The House, Criminal Minds, and played a costarring role in The Cheetah Girls: One World.90210 News - 90210 Fan SiteJust like the many new things you learned about Michael Steger, get ready to learn more about his character Navid Shirazi who takes Center Stage this season as his onscreen relationship turns south. Tagged as the "rich kid" at West Beverly, Navid quickly landed himself the hottest girl in school last year and almost married her toward the end of season one. Navid and his longtime girlfriend Adrianna have made it through the summer but when an old boyfriend comes back into the picture, will the happy couple survive? PopStar spoke with Michael Steger about the drama that season two is packing, Navid's troublesome adventures, and Michael even shares his lamborghini woes with us.PopStar: Congrats on the second season. How has filming been going?
Michael Steger: Very excited and they gave me a nice week off. I go back to work on Friday and I am stoked about the season.

PopStar: It looks like you guys have a great time on set; do you enjoy going to work all the time?
Michael Steger: Yeah, I have been having a great time filming. It has been a long hard work schedule but every minute of it is fun. They are picking the most amazing locations to shoot in; we've been to Rondo Beach, Hunting Beach, and all along the coast. I have no complaints and it has been a wild ride.
90210 News - 90210 Fan SitePopStar: You gotta fill us in all the drama and storylines surrounding Navid in season two. As fans, what can we expect?
Michael Steger: Fans can expect to see a whole [new side to Navid]. Navid is threatened by the new guy that comes to school, Teddy Montgomery. Navid is really trying to game his A game so he borrows his Dad's lamborghini, he really tries to hold on to A the best way he knows how. Throughout the beginning of the second season you really get to see Navid's jealous side. He starts growing jealous of this new guy that was Adrianna's ex boyfriend. The writers are putting my character through a lot of interesting, funny circumstances and you will get to see how he tries to hold on to Adrianna.

PopStar: If you could write your own storyline for Navid, what would happen?
Michael Steger: I would like to see Navid get into some more trouble. I would like him to go out and get involved in the real world some more; not necessarily keep it in high school so much, maybe some more stuff with the relationship with his parents. I think there is a drama and dysfunction with the fact that his dad is an immensely viable movie producer of certain films. There is a lot of dysfunction in that and I would like to see the writers address that.

PopStar: So fans can expect a lot of drama this season?
Michael Steger: Oh yeah! There is going to be a lot of craziness going on.

PopStar: Do you have any onset funny stories that you can share with us?
Michael Steger: Yeah, a lot. I got a lamborghini for the first episode. I'm in the driver's seat playing around and all I hear is Tristan Wilds, "Okay, can you get out the car, let me drive it." I told him, "dude, this is my lamborghini" and he said, "yeah, but let me drive it." So Tristan Wilds was the first person to drive my car. Coincidentally, the writers had my character let him borrow my lamborghini, so he has been driving it all season. I have only driven it once the whole season; it's pretty funny cause he is always bragging about his lamborghini.

PopStar: This season you are on the beach a lot. Can you tell us about that?
Michael Steger: Yeah, we are shooting on the beach. I have to thank all the execs for picking beach front trailer property, because it's always nice. We are on the beach; I think something the show was missing was that sense of adventure and the sense of being outdoors. The California beach side is something I am sure the fans will love to see.

PopStar: The music in 90210 is so relatable to pop culture; do you think that is an important factor?
Michael Steger: There are so many talented artists. The music is an integral part of storytelling and helps connect everything. It is an art right across the board.
90210 News - 90210 Fan Site
PopStar: Did you watch the original 90210?
Michael Steger: I watched a few episodes. It's hard not to hear what happened. I am a guy so I did not really watch it, I was just aware of the show. It is a huge part of 90's pop culture, but I am very aware of all the people on it. It's cool that they remade it.

PopStar: Message to the fans.
Michael Steger: Thank you so much for watching and I hope you like the new season.

Meet Trevor Donovan, 90210's New Golden Boy

Source: SeattlePI.com
Sept. 8, 2009
The new 90210 has seen a lot of changes since original show-runners Jeff Judah and Gabe Sachs handed off the reins to Rebecca Rand Kirshner last spring. The show is brighter, sunnier, all around more Californian. The storylines have amped up the teen drama (street racing, a sex tape and one heck of a hit-and-run accident in the season finale), and there are a few new faces as well. 90210 Series regular Dustin Milligan, who played Ethan, has left the show, and in his place newcomer Trevor Donovan has arrived. You might recognize Donovan from his stint as Jeremy Horton on Days of Our Lives or from his other life as an Abercrombie & Fitch model. He plays Teddy Montgomery, a tennis star who is also the son of an Oscar-winning actor. Though by all accounts Teddy is very much a golden boy, Donovan tells us that he has some secrets too, including a romantic past with one of 90210's leading ladies. As the show prepped for its second-season premiere (Tuesday, Sept. 8, 8/7c, CW), TVGuide.com spoke to Donovan about his new gig, who Teddy might have eyes for and how his arrival in the new new 90210 will shake things up.
TVGuide.com: Tell us about Teddy. What does he bring to the table?
Trevor Donovan: Teddy brings a very Southern Californian summer vibe -- the beach, sunshine, surfing, he brings a lot of that element. He's also a very genuine person. Any sort of comments or things that he does that may rub people the wrong way or offend anybody, it isn't intentional. Because he grew up in the entertainment world around a lot of adults, he's mature beyond his years. He doesn't fall into all the teen drama stuff.
TVGuide.com: But since this is 90210, we have to ask: Does Teddy have a dark side?
Donovan: He's definitely going to end up having some secrets, stuff from his past. You'll see a darker or grittier side of him eventually.
TVGuide.com: What has changed from Season 1?
Donovan: Man, everything's changed, from the look of the show, the lighting, the soundtrack, the scoring — the audio's changed. There are new writers, some new directors, production. I think in first season the character development was a little scattered. I think the storylines interact with each other better.
TVGuide.com: So what can you tease about what's upcoming for Teddy?
Donovan: He's bringing a little drama and sexual tension. There might be a love triangle between him, Adrianna and Navid. He's not the type of guy to jump into a relationship, so there's going to be interactions with different women throughout the episodes as well.
TVGuide.com: Yeah, I hear Teddy's a bit of a manwhore. Will he ever get a steady girlfriend?
Donovan: [Laughs] Well, I wouldn't call him a manwhore per se! He's
not a player; he's not running around lying to these girls and dating a bunch of girls at different times. He's very honest and straightforward. I think he's just much more realistic about adult, more mature relationships instead of thinking, "Oh, this is the one and only" like a lot of high school kids do. He does genuinely care about all these women in his life. When he's dating a girl, he's upfront with them and lets them know that he's not Iooking for any sort of relationship. He's not deceitful in any way. TVGuide.com: Did you watch the original Beverly Hills, 90210? Were you a fan?
Donovan: Yeah, I grew up in Mammoth Lakes, and they shot an episode up there and I was hanging around when I was on the ski team. I was very, very involved in athletics, so I didn't watch a lot of TV, but I definitely watched a lot of 90210.
TVGuide.com: Who is Teddy like from the original?
Donovan: He's like a combination of Steve and Brandon. He's a bit of a ladies' man, but a nice guy, but they're also trying to write some goofball humor to it. Any humor that comes out of him is supposed to be very nonchalant, not intentional.
TVGuide.com: Are you having fun?
Donovan: I'm having a great time; it's a blast.
